    Edit (2018):

For those coming here from google, your best bet is to get Nem's VTFEdit (click here) tool. This tool allows you to do JPG / PNG / BMP > VTF / VMT and vice-versa.

When you open VTFEdit, go to File > Import to import your target image. You can then do file > save as to save your VTF.

To create your VMT, tools > create VMT (and modify the options required accordingly).

I tend to use VTFedit and the GIMP when i make sprays and stuff. Anyway i've had a go at it and here it is. >> [attachment=0:2pvetzp2]Georges spray.zip[/attachment:2pvetzp2] The Zip contains a .tga the .vtf and the origonal image.

Just need to test it in game.

    Update 2018:

See the top post of this thread.

    ----------------

ArE yOu ReAdY fOr DaN's TrAnSpArEnT sPrAy GuIdE?

    Part 1: Sprays and you:

We all love sprays, they have funny and annoying phrases that let you deface the battleground of most hl2 games and mods!

But maybe a square box just isn't you...maybe your one of those abstract people.

    Part 2: Making the spray

Well first of all your going to need photoshop, I personally like CS2 more than CS3, can't afford it? Your not alone, so you'll have to find an "alternate" source ;)

Your going to want to start with your basic 256x256 transparent .psd file, this will assure highest image quality in game, feel free to use any sort of effects and images you want, but remember don't try and make it look to nice or it will look like crap in game when it gets all pixelated.

Part 3: Transparency, see-through, Gypsy magic

Well now you make think this is hard the first time through but actually it's really easy...just save your image make sure the bottom most layer is a blank transparency, if not then make a new layer and put it down there.

Ctrl+Click the boxes that display a tiny version of the layer, for multiple layers Ctrl+shift+click them. This will select all of the area that we want to see in game while not selecting the parts that we want to be transparent.

Now click the channels tab and click save selection as channel, a new Alpha channel will appear

Save the image as a .tga file in photoshop

Now place the targa file(.tga) in your Garrysmod folder and start up gmod, now import it

The game automaticlly makes a .vmt, and .vtf for you.
