So, I'm thinking of replacing my Nividia GeForce GTS 250 (Not bad), with a new card (probably ATI). Also adding 4 GB of RAM to top at 8 GB total. Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable card around $300?
Why $300, you can get one that will run pretty much everything on max for quite a bit less, unless you're rendering or something. (or hoping it'll be future proofed for a few years) But yeah, 480/60.
I also need a new motherboard probably, AMD isn't very good for my tastes. Bundt recommended http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102951 & http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131703 And my card is like $100ish but it could be better. I'm planning on keeping it for a good few years. Plus my christmas budget is a pretty decent amount.
I also recommend the 6950. You get plenty of bang for your buck with that. Do you really need a new motherboard?
I agree with them, maybe even go for an Intel if you want. And about the motherboard, you shouldnt need a new one unless something on the current one is fried, meaning the computer wouldnt be working at all.
I told him his crappy AMD cpu prob can't utilize the 6950's full potential, so if he wanted to, hopefully during xmas he can find an i7 mobo and an i7 cpu for pretty cheap. I don't know why he linked the mobo rather than the cpu. lawl.
As I couldn't be bothered to make my own thread you guys can help me here. What do you think of these specs: (Aiming for a desktop replacing laptop) anything you'd recommend changing upgrading? Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-2820QM (2.30GHz) 8MB Cache 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB) 2GB AMD® Radeon® HD 6990M - DirectX® 11 (17.3" Vortex II) 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
The proccesser is good, but you can't use a mobile on a desktop. I suggest an Intel or Nvidia instead of a Radeon.
Wow like that's my fault I read it as "a desktop replacing a laptop" because you didn't write it properly as "desktop-replacing laptop" Damn son.
Everything is fine there, but it seems really overpriced. I don't get how a 2g card is going to fit into a laptop either. 8G RAM is excessive, and most likely with specs like that your battery will be shit and your laptop will overheat like a beast. Which company are you using also? What size is the screen/laptop? I know your not building a laptop, hope your not that dumb. Also a year ago, sconed and I went on to alienwares website and built the best possible laptop. ($26000) No, I didn't add an extra zero.
He said to me he wanted a "casual" laptop for college. Somewhere where he's probably not going to be there for more than 5 hours a day and working. For "casual gaming" while he's there.
I hate you. Meanwhile im stuck with a gay Vista laptop and an even gayer Vista desktop which is somehow slower than the laptop.
I keep telling mom to buy it but shes being a bitch about it saying "Oh I dont have time to go out and get it" when she has time every day.
