Infinity Ward's announcement that "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" on PC would not have dedicated servers but instead opt for a matchmaking setup powered by IWNET provoked a vocal response among gamers, including an online petition that's now surpassed 125,000 signatures. The studio has been clear that they see that backlash, but also defended their move to IWNET, calling the peer-to-peer infrastructure a major investment. Taken From: http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/10/21/infinity-ward-responds-to-modern-warfare-2-petition/ We as PC gamers want the right to choose which server join. The movement from dedicated servers to matchmaking setup will weaken the clans of the PC, it will break apart communities and will move our free PC to an Xbox Live system. They believe they know what we as PC gamers want but they are wrong. We want our freedom to choose! Join me brothers of the PC and follow these steps. From Me, *What Should I DO?* First: Sign The Main Petition Second: Cancel Your Preorder Third: Boycott and don't buy the game or other Activision Products Fourth: Spread the Word and tell others and the Media Taken From: http://www.a2kclan.com/pt/Petition-and-Latest-MW2-PC-News-HERE/blog.htm
Dear god, people always pick the wrong thing to complain non stop about. Seriously, boycotting a company because of a single mess up? Retards.
Matchmaking is a fucking retarded concept and I was angry when I first saw it in XBOX games. I will: Sign that petition Not buy that game I never even pre-ordered it because it (like Teddi said) looks like shit Spread the word I won't however: Not play/purchase Activision products. I gotta go see what AWC has to think about this
You are a fool, first forcing us to use a matchmaking system then what? P2P? Are you blind or too stupid to notice they are taking our freedoms away from the PC and forcing us to use an industry standard. Go back to Xbox. ---------- Post added at 08:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 PM ---------- Wrong. The Left 4 Dead boycott group is stupid, they are demanding the game is free. All we want is our freedom to choose the server we want to play on. Not to be forced to join a party and play how they want us to play. ---------- Post added at 08:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 PM ---------- Amen brother. ---------- Post added at 08:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 PM ---------- I can't say I agree with the boycott Activision Products, but I just quoted their post
Sigh. Who the fuck cares? There gonna do it anyways. It doesn't matter if you sign a petition or not.
Why are you talking about gaming as if its a religion? Seriously, calm down. It's never as bad as you think it will be. If you want to play the game, then play it, don't whine about it and boycott it. I doubt Infinity Ward will even listen, their console market will boom and probably exceed the amount of sales it will make on PC anyway. Plus, just because one game does Matchmaking does not mean that it will change all of future PC titles. At the end of the day, it's a game. Stop getting so riled up about it. I hear some people even made fucking bumper stickers about this. P.S. There are probably good reasons for why they're doing Matchmaking anyway.

1. I'm not talking as if its a religion, its a hobby. I am merely speaking this way to help Infinity Ward Should they switch to Matchmaking they will ruin their multiplayer. Us speaking out for what we want is merely a way to convey the message that what they think we want and what we really want are 2 totally different things. 2. If Infinity Ward decides not to listen they will lose about 8,000,000 dollars. Their loss. 3. We are passionate about our freedoms. Whether it is a game or in real life. Us speaking up for what we want and what we believe is a way to help Infinity Ward better their games. At the end of the day if they decide to not listen, its their loss. Companies that DO NOT listen to their fan base will not do as good as they can.
Zephyr what about the people that want to go to matchmaking? Their listening to them. I mean sure, there arn't many but there is some i bet.
If people say they want to go matchmaking then they should be allowed. Infinity Ward would be wise to make Matchmaking a separate mode to find online games, but forcing everyone else to change for what others say isn't right.
But arnt you doing the same exact thing? Forcing them to change when others want matchmaking? Kind of a contradiction imo.
Hes proposing a joint. But matchmaking doesn't make much sense as a preferred over standard server browsing. It gives you more options and the ability to favorite certain servers.
COD has always been Dedicated Servers, there was no forcing to switch from matchmaking. Everyone has been use to the Dedicated Server mode, others may want matchmaking but thats what makes the PC version different, I believe a joint mode is the right way to go. It adds more flexibility to the game. ---------- Post added at 08:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ---------- A server browser and dedicated servers bring together communities. As people can play with certain people rather then playing with random people.
