Or at least for the run up to Christmas quite a few vendors are doing insanely good deals, for example 8GB of RAM for £30 (Usually retails at £100). 8GB of RAM - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128473&pf_rd_i=468294 £30 (Usually £100) i5 2500k - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Sandy...sor/dp/B004FA8NX2/ref=pd_bxgy_computers_img_b £164 (Usually £185). Keep an eye out for deals like this and possibly share them on here. Deals are always a good thing.
They're trying to compete with Ebuyer who have suddenly started releasing a ton of deals due to their £1 day thing being terrible and everyone getting mads
DDR2 stopped getting produced in favor of DDR3, but people were still mass using and buying it, so the prices shot up. Discounted i5-2500k there is the regular price here!
It's annoying because stores that start out cheap get bought out by a larger company and then suddenly the prices go up by 30-40%. Play.com used to be an excellent website in the UK for games and electronics and then it all went to shit.
Brought the ram and I'm thinking of getting the cooling as well. I'm working money over Christmas to get some cash on the side for a new pc. Saving up for a GTX 570 or 590 along with an Intel Core i7 3.4 GHz Processor. The only problem is getting the cash in the first place and finding a cheap cooling method.
I don't like ATI cards for one reason: Drivers. I cannot stand to have unoptimized cards which bug out and have random frame rate drops. Add to that I love Nvidia's FXAA and PhysX system which can make games like Battlefield 3 look great (there is some mods out there which allows you to remove that shitty saturation and bloom battlefield 3 has going on). Though I admit I am jealous of ATI's prices and I think Nvidia do overprice alot of things and have a few gimmicks which are pointless such as 3d view.
The only thing I dislike with ATI is that they don't really support older games (talking about pre 2002 here) very well. I've had no issues with the ATI drivers at all either.
One of my friends on steam (Waddy to be exact who fucking spent his student loan on a pre-built computer only to play shitty indie games) has been having issues with his RADEON HD 6990 on high end games due to driver problems. Though this is waddy and with a card that powerful I would imagine it would be something to do with the processor rather than the GPU itself.
I've got dual 6990Ms and I've had issues with multiple games. Not FPS issues more just general graphical glitching. The newest drivers are a tad better. But that's the only complaint i've had about ati so far.
