This poll is to pinpoint a middle-ground on specs in BBroleplay for future reference. This is not a "my computer is x amount of times better then your computer"-thread, nor do we need to know the specifics of your specs so don't bother posting them. If some values are either higher or lower, go with the majority of details that do fit. These details will be used when developing maps, models, skins, particle effects etc so that the appropriate fallbacks (mainly with DirectX and Shader Model) can be put into place. Low OS: non-XP/non-Vista CPU: less than or 1000 mhz RAM: 512 or less GFX: Below or 256mb memory HDD: Below or 80GB Shader Model: Under or 2.0 model DirectX: Below 9 Medium OS : XP/Vista CPU: 1000mzh to 2100 mhz RAM: 1GB GFX: Mid-range 512 memory HDD: Below 500GB Shader Model: 2.0 and/or 3.0 DirectX: 9 High OS: XP/Vista CPU: 2100+ RAM: 2GB+ GFX: Over 512 or 1GB memory+ HDD: Over 500GB or +1T Shader Model: 3.0 and/or 4.0 DirectX: 10
DX10 = Vista, so if you have XP, it's fine with DX9. Also, I have a 160Gb HD, but the rest is in the high section.
Well the people that lie have no reason to complain if the map lags for them or they can't join due to CTD. Also the HDD is more of a reference then anything that actually affects your spec rating, see it more like looking at the bright side. For the sake of argument, if you only pass 3/7 on Medium or High choose the lesser one.
I'm sorry, but I don't see the line where it says "Post count is uber, if you post something, it has to be really really long texted, or a flame against someone." My CPU is getting really slow, Its still got like.. 100g hard drive, But, with me playing steam, I only got a lil bit of space left, I intend on upgrading eventually. Saving up now. Tried running Mass effect, and my computer nearly died, So.. Telling me I'm falling behind in the world. Question: If a map is made, Does it sometimes surpass the regular graphics that the game boasts? Like.. Exceeds what it originally is? Or, Why would you need this? Just trying to learn a bit.
The normal resolution for textures is 512x512 I plan on using 1024x1024 for certain areas while using 1024x1024 textures for models to increase detail. Most computers at medium and certainly computer at low will have problems dealing with the amount of data needed to render these over a longer period of time. If 2/3 out of BB (those who have voted) have high specs we can increase the values to increase the detail and over-all atmosphere of the level by introducing elements like fog and advanced lighting, two things medium and low spec computers would have problems rendering.
Ahh, I see, So, your adding makeup that takes High specs to view. Alright, I understand it a bit more now. Hopefully I'll get this upgrade, because every game i've ever played has been on "Low" Settings... Even hl2 and spore.. >_< Tf2.. I could go on forever. Bahh. So, Those specs you posted generally are the better specs and what I should aim for if I want to continue being a BB Community player? :O EDIT:: I didn't know when I voted, Not like it mattered, cause its still weak I bet. Shader model? What is that from? Is it a download, Or is it motherboard? Video card? I'm a loser when it comes to this stuff.
You can still play on the map even with low settings just that it will look naturally worse and at some point including fall-back for DirectX 8 and LOD models that go down to about 50 poly will take more time then worth it in the long run. If you want a computer that won't need an upgrade anytime soon you should aim for either the high specs or something in between high and medium. Shader Model is from the GFX. As a starting ground I'd say 2gb of ram and maybe a 512 GFX, a friend of mine recently bought a 9500GT for 50 bucks and its a very damn good card. Plus there is always options for SLi if you stick with nVidia so if you buy two 512 gfx's you can link them with SLi for 1gb.
512 is good enough to play Assassins Creed on the highest details. Although don't get excited when you find a very cheap 7** Mb GFX, it's most probably shared memory. Shared memory is bad.
Usually shared memory doesn't go beyond 512mb, and finding 512mb shared isn't easy...it's usually 128/256.
OS: XP/Vista yes CPU: 2100+ yes RAM: 2GB+ yes GFX: Over 512 or 1GB memory+ yes HDD: Over 500GB or +1T yes (I also have a 1 terabyte external hard drive Shader Model: 3.0 and/or 4.0 Maybe dunno DirectX: 10
